Child Friendly Cities in NL
Inspired by the international conference 'Child in the City' (Brugge 2000) a Child Friendly Cities (CFC) initiative was launched in the Netherlands in March 2004. A CFC initiative group has been formed with UNICEF, whose members include: Vereniging van Nederlandse Gemeenten (VNG, the National Association of Local Communities), Jantje Beton (a national youth fund), 3VO (a national organization for road safety), the BNSP (a national association/fraternity of town planners). Within the initiative, a new project started in 2005 and involved main cities and villages of the country; the name of the project is “Kids Count” and it consists of an annual data collection which monitors the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Child (CRC) at local level. Every year, a ranking list based on CFC indicators (link: http://www.childfriendlycities.org/building-a-cfc/indicators-criteria-for-cfc/) is published.
Moreover, the City of Rotterdam (UNICEF City 2009) carried out specific CFC fundraising and advocacy activities.
