Seminar: New scenarios and new challenges for children, adolescents and cities

Florence, October 16 2009

The National Committee for UNICEF, the Istituto degli Innocenti and the UNICEF Innocenti Research Centre are organizing a seminar to analyze the new challenges faced by Italian cities for the fulfillment of children’s rights. The challenges and themes to be discussed at the event include: participation and citizenship; environmental sustainability; institutional commitment; participatory planning; safety and health. The global dimension of the CFC Initiative will be brought in through a presentation on the child friendly cities initiatives promoted by IRC and Childwatch. An introduction to the local context will be made by Istituto degli Innocenti and cities will be invited to describe their initiatives. The seminar will be held in Florence on October 16, 2009 within the context of the annual Creativity Festival, which this year is dedicated to the city. The event is addressed to municipal officers, practitioners, researchers, NGOs and interested individuals. Other Italian partners involved with the organization of the initiative include: ABCittà, National Association of Municipalities (ANCI), Arciragazzi, Associazione Culturale Pediatri, CAMINA, Legambiente.

The International Congress on Architecture and Children

Ankara, Turkey, November 18-21, 2009

The International Congress on Architecture and Children will be held in Ankara, Turkey. The goal of the congress is to share theoretical and practical experiences about city and architectural cultural works. The congress will include oral and poster presentations of the ARCHILD working groups. Topics include Children and the City, Children and Nature, Children and Places, and Children's Participation. The programme will be available on the website on August 31st.
