Cusco: Asociación de Municipalidades Amigas de la Infancia
In 2007 UNICEF Country Office created the Asociación de Municipalidades Amigas de la Infancia (Child Friendly Municipalities Association) in Cusco. This initiative is financially supported by a private enterprise and involves the Mayors of three rural communities: Caicay, Huancarani and Colquepata. It is promoted as part of UNICEF’s effort aiming to strengthen local authorities’ capacities to promote and protect children’s rights, within the framework of the decentralization process which is currently in process in the country.

Plan Nacional de Acción por la Infancia 2002-2010 (PNAIA)
The Plan Nacional de Acción por la Infancia y Adolescencia (National Plan for Childhood’s and Adolescence’s Actions) 2002-2010, represents the legislative frame of the Peruvian programs and strategies which defend children’s and adolescent’s rights. It focuses on 4 strategic objectives: healthy life for children aged 0-5; basic education for children aged 6-11; participation for adolescents aged 12-17; protection of rights. In 2005 the Plan was revised to adjust it to the current decentralization process launched by the Government. 12 Regions (Apurímac, Arequipa, Cajamarca, Cusco, Huancavelica, Huánuco, Lambayeque, Madre de Dios, Moquegua, Puno, Tacna and Ucayali) have now their own development plans regarding childhood and adolescence, as well as two cities (Ica and Trujillo) which launched local plans of action based on the PNAIA.

Rights of the Child and Adolescent in a context of social
exclusion, Lima
This Study, published in 2001, is the result of an extensive
programme of research to determine the situation of socially
excluded children and adolescents in Lima. It was based on a
careful examination of available statistics and recent
investigations, complemented by interviews with specialists
and those in charge of programmes relating to the rights of
the child and adolescents, as well as a focus group with children
and women's grassroots organizations. It examined the extent of
alliances, the situation of domestic violence and child abuse,
childcare and early stimulation, child labour, drug use, sexual
and reproductive health, adolescent maternity and participation.
In each case, the study identified the key
players, major developments, UNICEF's input, and opportunities
and constraints.
