UNICEF Child-Friendly Communities

[Past initiative]

The "UNICEF Child-Friendly Communities" aimed to develop a local management system, model and good practice, which, based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which has been in force in Hungary since 1991, undertook to provide priority and enhanced protection for children and to respect children's rights.

The idea of a "UNICEF Child-Friendly Communities " was not based on an ideal state or an exclusive model model, but rather provided a framework and guidance based on good practices, which helped any municipality to make its leadership, environment, relationships with businesses and services more "child-friendly", so that it could then form a network and pass on knowledge and relevant good practices to the surrounding settlements.

The coronavirus epidemic, which also appeared in Hungary in March 2020, posed new situations and challenges to all members of society. UNICEF Hungary could only estimate its long-term consequences, but it could feel its short-term effects. Within the framework of UNICEF's Child-Friendly Settlement program, UNICEF Hungary had launched a video series to give ideas on what a settlement can do for young childrenadolescents and families.
