Parròquies Amigues de la Infància
The Parròquies Amigues de la Infància (Child Friendly Parishes) initiative in Andorra was launched in 2013. Unlike in other countries, in Andorra this Child Friendly Cities initiative is implemented at the regional level.
As of 2023, all the seven parishes in the country are involved in the initiative, reaching almost 14,000 children, making a Andorra in effect a child-friendly country.
The initiative in Andorra is run by the Andorran National Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF Andorra). It uses those approaches to fulfill the rights of children in the country: child participation through Child Councils; a dedicated child-friendly budget; data collection on childhood; and the development of a national plan for children in conjunction with the state government.
UNICEF Andorra is regularly measuring progress for children made by the Comuns (local administrations of the parishes). Based on the results, UNICEF offers a set of recommended actions to the Comuns. These are implemented through an action plan and the implementation is reviewed. If the evaluation is favourable, the parish is granted the Child Friendly Parish recognition. The recognition is reviewed every two years.
