Municipios Amigos de la Niñez y la Adolescencia

The Child Friendly Municipalities Initiative (Municipios Amigos de la Niñez y la Adolescencia) in Paraguay was first implemented in 2018-2019 in four pilot municipalities.

Recently, the programme has been re-launched with a continuous flow of applications and evaluation of candidate cities, starting its implementation at the end of 2022 with five candidate cities.

The initiative, informed by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Sustainable Development Goals, the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the national strategy for children, aims to create results for children through local planning and budgeting, community empowerment, child and youth participation, advocacy, cross-sectoral collaboration and capacity building of local governments.

The initiative is implemented with the support of a national committee including the UNICEF Academic Advisory Board, UN Global Compact Directory,  Educational Observatory and the UNICEF Adolescent Council and Alma Cívica (CSO).
