Public center for ombudspersons
Wanju, Republic of Korea
Best practice- Advocacy & awareness-raising
Wanju has taken a bold step in its commitment to enhancing an independent human-rights monitoring mechanism by opening a groundbreaking public center for ombudspersons in 2022.
As the first center of its kind, it aims to address the infringement of children's rights, lack of a permanent window to report cases, and the absence of ombudspersons to represent children's best interests in local policies.
The newly established center promises to enhance children's access to consultation and has already received appeals to eliminate discrimination against minority groups and to improve independent mobility of young pedestrians.
